The Holland Centre and Williamsford District Lions Club received a boost to make Williamsford Community Centre accessible and replace an old condenser, thanks in part to $35,200 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker joined OTF representative Jim Murray to survey the well-loved community centre and officially congratulate volunteers on their efforts.
Through the grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the oversized, aging condenser at the Williamsford Community Centre will be replaced. The new system is scheduled to be installed in May 2013 and will be ready for the new curling season. The new more efficient condenser will provide a reliable system, which will reduce energy costs, potentially attracting new memberships. The grant will also provide a paved area at the entrance to the community centre to provide accessible parking for the facility and the ball diamond.

“Congratulations to the Holland Centre & Williamsford District Lion’s Club and its members on receiving this grant to replace the condenser and upgrade the parking facilities. I join with the community to welcome these replacements and changes that will provide energy efficiency and more accessible parking area for the community centre and surrounding recreational area.” Quote from Bill Walker, MPP Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound
“The Holland Centre & Williamsford District Lion’s Club and its members are committed to community development and have been invaluable in their support of the Williamsford Community Centre. The proceeds from the Ontario Trillium grant will purchase a new condenser for the community centre to replace the 30 year old condenser and will provide a paved area and parking space for persons with accessibility issues. The Williamsford Community Centre Board is thankful for OTF’s commitment to recreation and public safety in our community,” Frank Beirnes, Chair, Williamsford Community Centre Board
ABOUT
The Williamsford Community Centre Board was established in 1954 with the community centre being built in 1955. The failing community centre was replaced with the new building in the summer of 2010, with the community pulling together and covering, to date, all but 15% of the construction costs through fundraising and donations. At the time of construction funds were not available to replace the 30 year old condenser. The Williamsford Community Centre is located in the Township of Chatsworth, population of 8,000. It is run by an 11-member Community Board and is used by many for curling, meetings, social events, fundraisers, weddings and banquets. The land around the centre includes a playscape for children and a baseball diamond.
A leading grant-maker in Canada, the Ontario Trillium Foundation strengthens the capacity of the voluntary sector through investments in community-based initiatives. An agency of the Government of Ontario, OTF builds healthy and vibrant communities.
