Grand Opening
Williamsford Community Centre was a hub of activity last week preparing for the grand opening. Things began arriving, the dishwasher, stoves & fridge, stainless steel tabling, the pass through for the bar and kitchen, dishes, and a piano donated by Helen Kuglin. The WCC telephone and answering machine is once again back in operation. There is still scads to do but everything is starting to come together.
There are a lot of people to thank. Let's start with the money.
Thanks to MP Larry Miller and the Federal Govt. for $250,000.00
MPP Bill Murdock and the Provincial Govt. for $250.000.00, also MPP Carol Mitchell for her letter of congratulations.
The Township of Chatsworth for $50,000.00
Frank Coulter representing The Trillium Foundation for $25,700 toward the kitchen.
Jeff Williamson representing Farm Credit Corp. for $14,000.00 toward the building fund.
Special thanks to the staff at The Township Office for sponsoring the Grand Opening. Will Moore; always available to help and guide the Building Committee through the maze of problems that pop up. Grace, Theresa and Heather always willing to help. They also provided and served a great lunch afterward. Thank-you.
The Volunteers:
--Special thanks to Jerome Moran, John Currie, Roger McNabb, and The Holland Centre & Williamsford District Lion's Club for applying to the Trillium Foundation and their contact Jim McCleave for organizing and filling out all those forms on the computer.
--Thanks to Bruce Glasser for the huge amount of time spent on the phone rescuing our phone number, making out dozens of receipts and trying to figure out how to pay for everything.
--A special thank-you to Helen Kuglin for donating her piano. This special gift will keep on giving for many years to come.
--Sascha Wagner, KW-Lift for supplying heavy equipment in time of need.
--Earl Barry for overseeing the overseers and keeping Moe in check. Maurice Batterman, always willing to lend a hand.
--The Kitchen Committee: Helen Kuglin, Marlene Glasser, Annette Fairbarn and Gwen Barry for planning and setting up the kitchen; picking out wall, floor and trim colours; and making list upon lists for equipping the kitchen.
(Thanks to Al Domm for kindly offering great suggestions)
--There is also the Wednesday Group headed by Ralph Clark, that moved all the tables and chairs and other paraphernalia around the municipality for storage. Their work isn't done yet but thanks guys for the trucks, trailers and muscle power.
--Bob Schallhorn for painting the "www.williamsfordcommunity centre" sign
--Will Elliot for donating his labour for making the kitchen and bar cupboards.
--Last but not least thanks Laura for offering The Williamsford Pie Company for the unofficial office for WCC officials.
I'm sure there are people who have inadvertently been missed. Please fill out the contact sheet to jog my memory or call 794-3712
